The Brazilian Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Childhood and Adolescence (SOGIA-BR), founded on October 3, 1995, under the leadership of our dear master Professor Álvaro da Cunha Bastos, aims to encourage the study and scientific research of problems related to health in female childhood and adolescence; encourage the creation of study and assistance centers for this age group; emphasize aspects of preventive medicine; promote congresses and other regional, national and international events; represent Brazil before similar national and international societies and maintain cultural exchange with societies of the species.

SOGIA-BR has been fulfilling its goals. We have already organized 15 (fifteen) Brazilian Congresses; four international events, two symposia, one (1) Latin American Congress and one (1) World Congress. Several gynecological assistance centers for children and adolescents and centers for prenatal and childbirth assistance for adolescents are operating throughout the country, both in universities and in state and/or municipal health secretariats, under the coordination of colleagues linked to the SOGIA -BR. We are represented internationally in the Latin American Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Childhood and Adolescence (ALOGIA) and in the International Federation of Children's Gynecology (FIGIJ). We confer the Álvaro da Cunha Bastos Award for the best scientific work presented at the SOGIA-BR congresses. We also confer the Qualification Title in Obstetrics and Gynecology of Childhood and Adolescence, through a contest held during the congresses organized by SOGIA-BR.

The Brazilian Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Childhood and Adolescence is  organized by Regional Delegates of SOGIA-BR in several states  Brazilians every two years, always with the aim of publicizing the peculiarities  in the care of children and adolescents, discuss the main themes,  taking advantage of the experience of those who militate and dedicate themselves on a daily basis to  various situations of gynecology  of childhood and adolescence and  promote public policies to protect these girls, as well as to reduce  of teenage pregnancy in our country.
